Patricia Harrison, Judge for Raintree's 2017 Harvest of Quilts XII
Patricia Harrison is certified as a Quilt judge and as a Master Quilt judge by the National Association of Quilt Judges and is currently the President of the association. The National Association of Certified Quilt Judges is the recognized standard for well-prepared, knowledgeable, quilt judges. NACQJ Judge Certification is a rigorous independent study program involving extensive research into all areas of quilt making from design through construction, "hands on” experience working with certified judges in judging venues, and a final Certified Judge panel practicum examination.
She has been a long-arm quilter since 1999 and a quilt maker since 1985. She has undergraduate and graduate degress from University of Rhode Island in Home Economics Educaiton with Textile concentration. She spent seventeen years as a Home Economics teacher of textiles, international foods, and consumer education to students from 2nd Grade to adults in the Narragansett school system in Rhode Island. She has created and presented lectures on numerous quilt subjects.
Patricia says you can't judge local quilt shows by national standards. "You've got to look at where the group is. You've got to find the cream of the crop, based on everything that's there." She also believes in leaving constructive comments.
Pat will be judging Raintree's quilts in the first week of September. She will give a program on quilt judging at Raintree's September meeting. Guests are welcome to this meeting.
