What a quilt show - Harvest of Quilts VII - Growing With Quilting! By Anita Johnson
Well over 800 (perhaps over 900) attendees! By all accounts, viewers enjoyed the show. With a greater number of members exhibiting quilts than ever before, the show offered a fabulous variety of quilts and quilted items for display. A beautiful array - inspiring and delighting to the senses!
Our mission to promote interest in the art of quilting was well served by our efforts. Visiting with attendees gives us every reason to think our passion for quilting is alive and well and being passed to future generations. Several younger folks came to our show - some with parents and others on their own. One non-quilter told me her 10-year-old daughter really wasn't looking forward to our show, but left having enjoyed the experience. Another young woman purchased an antique quilt top from our Treasure Table with the intention to complete the quilt. Others of all ages were engaged by our demonstrations and make-&-take opportunities. There were times the demo room had multiple activities occurring with visitors participating. Our children's area was as interesting for adults as for children, and received requests to take their show on the road.
Our vendors were pleased and sales and contacts made, and with our hospitality. Many members utilized the Treasure Table to sell their items and purchase those of others - so successfully that the table was so bare by Saturday's closing time, a request went out for more items to be brought in for Sunday. Likewise the Silent Auction did a great job with a wide variety of items donated by our members. A big thanks to everyone who worked these booths and contributed items for sale or auction.
This show and all of these positive results would not be possible without the generosity of our members' time, planning skills, physical efforts above and beyond their quilt-making skills. From publicity to registration, setup to takedown, information to demonstration, door prize to vendor recruiting, hospitality to white gloves, pre-show planning to post-show wrap up, to all the volunteers worked together to produce a quilt show experience. We are grateful and proud of all the participation! Raintree Quilters' Guild - You Rock!
